The Third European Outreach Meeting of the Open Government Partnership
(OGP), dedicated to "Transparency, Participation and Collaboration:
Public Administration opens to dialogue", took place in Rome
on Monday the 10th of December 2012 at the Department for Public
Administration. The Open Government Partnership is a multilateral
initiative aimed to secure concrete commitments from Governments to
promote openness and transparency in the Public Administration.
The Rome meeting, organized by the Italian Department for Public
Administration with the support of the UK Cabinet Office, that
currently co-chairs the OGP, followed those held in London
(February 2012) and Dubrovnik (October 2012).The event represented
a further occasion, at the European level, for debating and
exchanging information among Government, associations and civil
society representatives to discuss ideas and experiences to support
the Open Government process.
The meeting agenda focused on the three dimensions of Open
Government:
- Transparency: Public Administration opens information, improves
accountability so to fight corruption and inefficiencies and
creating economic opportunity
- Participation: engaging civil society, generating more informed
and effective policies and shared decision making processes
- Collaboration: cooperation among Public Administrations,
citizens, entrepreneurs and CSOs so to create new
services and co-ownership in public policies
The participants shared experiences and know how presenting
useful elements for an effective implantation of Open Government
policies.
Furthermore, the meeting was a moment for discussing the way
forward for future dialogue among Government and CSOs within the
OGP, also in view of improving National Action Plans.
